new banner, new market

Making a new banner for this blog continually seems to get overlooked. Last weekend, my husband took some beautiful photos while hiking with the girls. I think this is especially captivating.

The new Poppytalk holiday market opened yesterday. There are several shops I hope to mention later this week. My shop, Spool + Sparrow, is there as well. For now, we're a bit snowed in so the kids manage to fill most every moment. We don't often get this kind of snow, lots of large drifts too given the intense wind yesterday. Photos to come...

Poppytalk's 1st holiday market of the season is open!

Poppytalk's newest market opened today. It's the first of their winter holiday markets, and I am proud to have my little shop included in such fantastic company. I've not had much time to peruse the 100+ shops yet but I'll share a few gems that grabbed my attention. I've a bum hand and 2 sick kids so time is extra limited to post - trying to save the hand as much as I can for shop work.

This tote from Smidgebox of Vancouver, B.C.
I looove reverse applique and denim.

This block printed journal made by Katharine Watson of Washington, D.C. Block printed on fabric and then bound by hand, thus, no two exactly alike. Just the way I like 'em!

These gorgeous old bobbins from Odd & Old of Lille, France

This beautiful embroidery piece from Indiana Blue of Morgantown

This very unique tea towel by Avril Loreti of Toronto

This beautiful poppy brooch from Monkey & Squirrel of Charlotte, NC

This wool felted bowl from Maria Roth of Hold in beautiful Vancouver, B.C.

And from the shop with perhaps my favorite name ever - Bespoke Uprising of Ontario - these sa-weet knickers.

Poppytalk September Lookbook

Hey, guess who's on the cover of Poppytalk's September Lookbook?! I've had no luck embedding it here on my blog, but I hope you'll take a look. Poppytalk began creating these lookbooks this summer. I love that I can now access featured items even after a market has closed.

I think so highly of Poppytalk and the fabulous Jan and Earl who are ever innovative and dedicated to supporting the artists and craftspeople whose work they feature. It is a great honor.

Poppytalk - Mixed Tape Market starts today

Poppytalk's Mixed Tape Market (Aug30-Sept24) is now open. Poppytalk continues to be my favorite marketplace for handmade goods of all kinds. While you're there, stop by my table for a peek at my tea towels. I've got stripes, stripes, stripes - stitched or wood-block printed. Striped pillows coming this week and perhaps a surprise.

Poppytalk - A push for continue awareness & assistance

Tomorrow is the final day of Poppytalk's Oil Spill Response Market. Read more about it here.
From among the hundreds of items offered, here are few suggestions:

wooden guitar picks or a fabulous wood bunting from Bliss in a Teacup

a beautiful print from Kiki and Polly to recapture the nostalgia of your youth

a perfect-for-summer picnic roll-up made by Things by Slo

some vintage wooden shoe forms for display on a bookshelf or to hold your business cards at an upcoming craft show - from Octavia & Brown

I still have 2 items just waiting to be plucked up to benefit the cause. Pick up a tool roll or bicycle pillow slip (made to fit a widely available standard size pillow form) and save it for a gift giving occasion.

And, there's lots more to be found, but you'll need to act now. This benefit market end tomorrow. Thank you!

Poppytalk for Oxfam - oil spill response market

Poppytalk's Oil's Spill Response Market is in full swing now. So many beautiful items! Be sure to check out each vendor's item for donation. I've got a hemp/organic cotton printed bicycle pillow slip and a printed artist's tool roll up as items for donation. Haven't yet managed to peruse all of the shops, but that's on the agenda. Just to mention a few faves so far...

I have a clock for the girls' room coming our way from Mary at MB Art Studios. I love this necklace and this sweet dish, also by Mary, but one my daughters felt the clock was perfectly suited for their room. She's right.

Poppytalk for Oxfam - oil spill response market

Many of us have the devastation of the oil spill in mind these days. I applaud Poppytalk in their decision to cancel a previously scheduled July market in favor of an Oil Spill Response market. Poppytalk and all of the participating vendors in this market will be making donations to Oxfam America to aid those most vulnerable communities threatened by the spill.

This market will run July 5- July 30. I am honored to be a participant. I'm working on a couple of new carvings and will include designs I didn't have available the last time I participated in a Poppytalk Handmade market.

I've been toying a bit with some possible fall/winter designs. Belts inspired by the traditional Japanese kimono sash & obi belt will definitely be included. My older daughter and I have enjoyed making fabric pins in recent weeks. Soon, and for the Oil Spill Response Market, I'll be listing some in the shop along with some wrap belts. A couple months back I lucked into some great vintage cotton Japanese fabrics - great texture and super vivid colors. I'm very pleased with the belts I have made so far. I'll offer at least one women's size and two kids sizes. Here's a peek of a couple for kids:
